The building is a little bit off from the main road between Jomtien and Pattaya. It is maybe a half a mile walk, which I have found to be a good daily exercise. At around 9000 baht a month, it’s much less expensive (less than 250 US) and much nicer than anything I saw in Raleigh or Durham when I was last apartment hunting.
It has a unique (to me) bath design with the shower fixture on a wall adjacent to the commode, attached to a small on-demand water heater. There is no tub, the whole bath room floor is about 2 inches lower than the rest of the apartment and slightly inclined toward a drain under the sink. There is a line of three small covered windows and one open to provide ventilation across the back wall. There is a bidet hose with sprayer next to the commode, instead of a toilet paper holder. It’s a bit different but efficient.
The apartment came furnished, including a plastic set of patio chairs and table (which I am using inside for a dinner table), a refrigerator, a set of cupboards with built in sink, leather couch, two chairs, glass covered coffee table, television, entertainment stand, and a floor fan.
The bedroom is in front and separated from the living room by a window (which can be opened) and a glass door. There are curtains on the door and window for privacy. Inside the bedroom is a king sized bed, a small desk and plenty of closet/cabinet space. Just forward of the bedroom is a nice balcony overlooking the street.
Since moving in, I’ve picked up a little rice cooker/crock pot and may pick up a hot plate later. I had to put down 2 month’s rent as security and sign a lease written out entirely in Thai. My land lady is an attractive young woman named Porn (a common first name here) who has been very kind and helpful. I’m pretty pleased with it.
I’ve included a few pictures.
