I thought it may be good thing to explain the shameless solicitation, advertising and request for donations.
I have not hidden the fact that things are relatively cheaper for me living where I am. I do have the disability pension and I am able to have a reasonably comfortable life style here.
So the question which may be asked in some minds is why is he looking for more money?
I’ve worked hard most of my life and at this point I know that money can’t buy peace, love or happiness. It can make things a helluva lot easier to manage though. While I do have the pension, it would be nice to have some income independent of the mismanagement or whims of those controlling the pension.
A second, though not necessarily lesser point is that I have and I am, sharing a bit of myself with you on this blog. Not that you came here looking to live vicariously through me, but part of my stated goal here is to amuse and entertain.
Many people pay big bucks every day to truly greedy and less honest vendors for amusement and entertainment than I am. If you don’t know what I mean, you should try and sit for ten minutes in front of Fox News. I’m not saying any of the others is much better, but Fox News? Certainly the news source of choice for hammer heads
I maintain this blog for myself and I will continue to do so until I decide not to. I am not asking you to pay to be a member and I won’t be having pledge drives. What I will ask you are these questions:
Have you laughed, giggled or chortled at any of my silliness here?
Have my opinions or observations (ranting)made you pause and consider a different point of view or at least prompt you to examine a view you have and either believe it more or start to question it?
Have any of my adventures caused you to wonder what you would do if you woke up in a similar set of circumstances?
If you answered yes to any one of these questions than I have in some way entertained you. Not entirely different from the way you have been entertained through your cable subscription, DVD collection, movie tickets or perhaps a really trashy book you wouldn't want anyone to know you've read.
If you want to help and you have some disposable income and are so motivated, by all means, make a donation using the Paypal link, it will be greatly appreciated.
You may want to help but want more for your money than a warm fuzzy for helping out some poor miscreant (me). Go to any one of the ads you see along the side. It helps more if you buy something from them, but if I get enough people to just click and look at ads I may get a few coins. That is also appreciated.
If you can’t be bothered to do either, but you felt something from my words; if I got you to think, laugh, cry or curse, please take five minutes and use the comments option and tell me – give me the warm fuzzy.
Maybe your visit here caused you to surf away from this web site thinking “I better hide the cashews because that guy is fucking nuts!” Tell me, give me something to think, laugh, cry or curse at. Anonymous is fine – I’m not looking to compile a spam email list.
(Excuse me but there’s a short fellow in the back with a squeaky voice jumping up and down waving his hands. Yes? Step up, what’s the question?)
“OK, ok, suppose I do send you a couple of dollars or click on some your links or order one of those “impeach Bush” coffee cups so I can impress the hot liberal chick at work, how do I know you aren’t going to just spend the money on prostitutes? You were a sailor after all, and anyone who reads this drivel can tell you aren’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. I feel bad for you and all but can’t I just make a donation to a charity instead?”
When I was setting up this blog I had considered putting some links up to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or to other organizations that fund stem cell research.
While I am glad that such organizations exist, I fear that the political pollution in America has already forfeited a dominant role in stem cell science for America.
More importantly (to me) I have been in contact with a hospital in China that has been developing and using new treatments with stem cells.
Here are excerpts of information that was sent to me:
Tiantan Puhua Hospital (Beijing, China) uses multiple stem cells treatment programs. The medical plan is tailored for each patient due to the specific disease and condition, and usually will include a combination of treatments working together to make the treatment as effective as possible.
The treatment includes stem cell implantation, medication procedure, surgery procedure, biofeedback treatment and rehabilitation. Typically the treatment includes self stem cell activation program - using a combination of medicines given through intravenously that stimulates the production of the body’s own stem cells. This treatment enhances the effectiveness and reduces the duration of the treatment, and also considered more ‘natural’ since no ‘outside’ stem cells are used. This combined treatment has so far proved itself to be most efficient in bringing high level of recovery.
For Parkinson’s disease the stem cells used come from human retinal pigment epithelial cell. These cells do not have immunosuppressive reactions and therefore there is no need for immunosuppressive drugs.
We use PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scans before and after the treatment to evaluate the effectiveness of the cells and to see the dopamine metabolism changes in the brain. Currently, all the Parkinson patients that have gone through transplantation of this type of cells showed increasing dopamine metabolism, and the patient’s condition has improved significantly a short time after the injection. (Long term effectiveness is still under investigation).
So far, about 20 Parkinson patients have been treated with hRPE (human retinal pigment epithelial) stem cells from Beida’s lab in various cooperative hospitals. All of the patients showed increasing dopamine metabolism, and the conditions of all the patients improve after the transplantation (usually the improvements occurred one week after the injection). But long term following up is still under investigation (at least 1-3 years follow up), so the treatment is under careful control, especially in the selection of suitable patients.
Back to the question of what I will do with any revenue I make from this site or from any donations that may be sent my way.
I try not to spend a lot of time talking about my hour to hour quality of life living with this thing. There are only so many ways to express the on going roller coaster of pain, discomfort, physical weakness, inability to speak, write, stand or walk before it would become boring to me, and I suspect to you as well.
You can rest assured that there is nothing more important to me than reclaiming full use of this body.
It’s not that I wouldn’t be happy to do this in the States. So far as I know it isn’t available yet, despite the fact that there are no complicating “moral” issues to confuse people with.
Like the rest of life, there are no gaurantees but this is the best looking option I've seen yet.
So you can with clear conscious, donate money, visit the advertisers, buy stuff through the links on this website and need not worry that any prostitutes, bar keepers or other vice vendors will be aided or supported with your contributions.
